Design statement

My client is a painter. He loves collecting paintings and some daily necessities used in his life. Collecting paintings is his pursuit of art, and collecting daily necessities is his memory of life.

Since the client attaches great importance to the repeatability of art, and most of the frames and frames in the paintings drawn by the client are square, I use the positive block as the basic module in my design, which can make people feel more in this artistic atmosphere and make it flexible to push and slide.

My client, who had been shot in a previous studio, was very safety conscious, so I divided the space into private and public Spaces. Private space includes living area, and public space includes working area and display area. The two materials used in Display area, like tinfoil and silver, are also the two most preferred materials in the client’s previous studio.

In terms of functions, I found that the walls in research3 can slide, which can enhance the functionality of a small space and make the space flexible. Therefore, the blocks as basic modules are endowed with sliding and pushing functions. A piece of furniture has multiple functions, so that it can play a maximum role in this small space.

Research 3

It is a concept apartment product made up of several movable walls, with 12 types of walls. Occupants can choose several walls and then customize the room inside, forming their own studio, dining room or bedroom. Just as items don’t have different barcodes, different layouts have their own unique wall distribution. Maximize the value of space, meet a variety of living needs, to provide a comfortable living environment.

Research 2

The display area provides people with a view similar to the simple layout of a magazine, which is a very special view, like turning a 3D space into a 2D plane. Interestingly, the exhibits also occupy an unusual position: suspended from the ceiling above people’s view. Although this is not the best place to display objects, with the help of interior lighting, the viewer’s attention is focused on the exhibits.

Reflection on the work of Cornelia Parker

Last week, after visiting the exhibition of Cornelia parker, I think that Cornelia parker is a very thoughtful artist, and her installation is very personal.

In the exhibition, she changes the original shape of objects by squashing, shattering, deformation, abstraction, cutting and other methods to show the meaning she wants to express. It is both graphic and abstract, and people need to stop for a moment to think about its meaning. Cornelia parker is adept at using transformation and storytelling to address the issues of her time, whether it’s violence, ecology, or anything else.

I was very impressed by her installation work called island. When I first saw this work, I thought it represented an insecure and unstable state, like a stormy island. I was intrigued by the white marks on the surface of the installation, the flickering light inside and the foundation. Research process of seen after the introduction, I think she has a strong logicality, and she will focus on these points are clear display on the device, such as the trace of white from the white cliffs of Dover chalk, white cliffs of Dover is also considered a symbol of England, was also on behalf of chalk covered closed house now to take off the British; The flickering light is like the human breath, showing a state of uneasiness due to climate or political situation, etc.; . This is similar to our design process, which is grounded and logical from the beginning to the end.

I like her device. It makes people think.

Wearable reflection

In terms of model making, the structural and cultural characteristics of the building are the basis of my design, such as the repeated architectural layout composed of circular walls, the internal structure ascending from inside to outside, and the holes in the outer wall for defense, etc.

The special texture and color of kraft paper can best express the precipitation brought by history. If there is enough time, I will upgrade the material and use more comprehensive materials to make the visual and tactile effects more detailed.

In terms of production details, the holes in the outer wall and the position of the eyes derived from the holes add interest to the whole.

In addition, in order to show the complete model structure to people more intuitively, I connected the internal walls with ribbons, so that when the outer layer of the model is lifted, the internal structural layers will be raised separately, which is convenient for the internal structure to show.

In the production of eaves, with appropriate width of kraft paper, folded into the same rectangle, and each rectangle interwoven with solid glue for fixing, so as to shape the eaves and solve the problem of material is not strong.

After making it by myself, I deeply felt the centripetal force and influence of the clan represented by the tulou. I think for the residents, this may be the courage to pay for their families that is difficult for outsiders to understand.
